Switchplay
Designing shared paths for noisy human environments.
Switchplay is a peer-learning platform that helps people turn experience into structured, reusable paths that others can follow, adapt and build upon.
It supports progress in complex environments where objective data, expert judgement, lived experience and social noise all interact. Rather than treating knowledge as something delivered only by an institution or expert, Switchplay helps people learn from the practical experience of others while retaining their own judgement and context.
The project began in professional football player development, where players, coaches, analysts, sport scientists and psychologists all hold different parts of the development picture. It later evolved into a broader platform for creating and sharing paths made from goals, actions and meaningful signals.
Balancing data and human judgement
Development rarely follows data alone. Switchplay brings objective evidence, professional expertise, peer knowledge and personal experience into the same progression path.
Data can inform a decision without becoming the decision. The person following the path remains responsible for interpreting signals in relation to their own circumstances.
Reducing noise through structure
In complex environments, information is rarely scarce. More often, useful experience and important signals become buried beneath competing priorities.
Switchplay uses deliberate constraints—three channels, three steps and three signals—to help creators express what matters clearly and help followers focus without becoming overwhelmed.
Designing progression through cards
Cards turn a path into a sequence of manageable stages. Each card can bring together practical actions, guidance, evidence and reflection in a form that feels more tangible and approachable than a traditional plan or dashboard.
The card structure also helps creators translate lived experience into something another person can understand and use.
Humanising data visualisation
Traditional charts can frame progress too quickly as success or failure. Switchplay experiments with softer force-field visualisations that preserve context, uncertainty and interpretation.
Signals are there to support reflection and conversation—not to replace human judgement or define the person following the path.
From individual paths to shared, adaptable paths
A Switchplay path can begin with one person’s experience, but its value grows when that knowledge is structured into a reusable deck that others can follow, adapt and learn from through action and reflection.
In teams and organisations, shared decks can also create a common language for progression across coaches, practitioners, colleagues and participants without requiring everyone to hold the same perspective.
